Une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs de l&rsquo;\u00c9cole polytechnique f\u00e9d\u00e9rale de Lausanne (EPFL), en collaboration avec le Laboratoire national de microbiologie du Canada et l&rsquo;Imperial College London, a identifi\u00e9 un g\u00e8ne de d\u00e9fense naturelle contre le VIH, sp\u00e9cifiquement pr\u00e9sent dans les g\u00e9nomes des populations d&rsquo;ascendance africaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9tude, dirig\u00e9e par le Professeur Jacques Fellay de la Facult\u00e9 des sciences de la vie de l&rsquo;EPFL, a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 l&rsquo;existence d&rsquo;une nouvelle r\u00e9gion du g\u00e9nome humain qui est unique aux populations africaines et qui est associ\u00e9e au contr\u00f4le spontan\u00e9 du VIH. Le g\u00e8ne en question, appel\u00e9 CHD1L, a \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9 comme un acteur cl\u00e9 dans la limitation de la r\u00e9plication du VIH dans un sous-ensemble de globules blancs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0En recherchant des variations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques humaines associ\u00e9es au contr\u00f4le spontan\u00e9 du VIH, nous avons identifi\u00e9 une nouvelle r\u00e9gion du g\u00e9nome qui n\u2019est variable que dans les populations d\u2019ascendance africaine\u00a0\u00bb, explique le Professeur Jacques Fellay. \u00ab\u00a0Nous avons explor\u00e9 le m\u00e9canisme biologique \u00e0 l\u2019origine de l\u2019association g\u00e9n\u00e9tique au travers d\u2019approches informatiques et exp\u00e9rimentales, ce qui nous a permis de montrer que le g\u00e8ne CHD1L limite la r\u00e9plication du VIH dans un sous-ensemble de globules blancs\u00a0\u00bb, ajoute-t-il.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette d\u00e9couverte ouvre des perspectives prometteuses pour le d\u00e9veloppement de nouvelles options th\u00e9rapeutiques pour les personnes vivant avec le VIH. En comprenant le r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 du g\u00e8ne CHD1L dans la limitation de la r\u00e9plication virale, les scientifiques esp\u00e8rent pouvoir mettre au point des traitements plus cibl\u00e9s et plus efficaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le VIH demeure un d\u00e9fi majeur pour la sant\u00e9 mondiale, et les avanc\u00e9es scientifiques telles que celle-ci sont cruciales pour l&rsquo;\u00e9laboration de strat\u00e9gies de traitement novatrices. Les chercheurs pr\u00e9voient maintenant de poursuivre leurs investigations pour mieux comprendre les m\u00e9canismes mol\u00e9culaires impliqu\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;action du g\u00e8ne CHD1L et pour \u00e9valuer son potentiel th\u00e9rapeutique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de recherche se r\u00e9jouit de ces r\u00e9sultats prometteurs et esp\u00e8re que cette d\u00e9couverte ouvrira la
