
Bronx, NY – March 27, 2025 – In an atmosphere filled with spirituality, brotherhood, and recognition, the Bronx Borough Hall welcomed the Muslim community and Bronx residents on Thursday evening for the 2025 Bronx Iftar, a communal Ramadan fast-breaking event organized by Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, in partnership with the Bronx Economic Development Corporation (BXEDC).
Held under the theme “Voices of Compassion: A Celebration of Diversity, Faith, and Leadership,” the evening was a powerful expression of tolerance and unity. Numerous community departments and advisory councils were present, including the Veterans Advisory Council, the Disability Advisory Council, the Youth Interfaith Council, the LGBTQIA+ Taskforce, and the African Advisory Council, underscoring the Bronx’s deep commitment to inclusion and interfaith solidarity.
A Message of Unity at the Heart of Ramadan
In the magnificent Rotunda of Borough Hall, attendees shared a unique moment of reflection and dialogue centered on faith, leadership, and cultural diversity. Uplifting speeches emphasized the importance of mutual respect and living together in harmony, all within a Bronx that is proudly embracing its future.
Honoring Community Champions
A highlight of the evening was the awarding of honors to outstanding members of the community. The Public Advocate for the City of New York Award was presented to Mohammad Ahmed Jan, Monjur Choudhury, Pastor Jay Gooding, and Fatmata Kamara for their exceptional commitment and service.

Other residents were recognized with Citations of Merit handed out by President Gibson herself. Honorees included:
